In February, BBC Marathi released a feature about students from Shahapur Taluka, who daily brave the treacherous waters of Tansa river to get to school. It highlights the years of cut-off tribal padas in these areas faced from the mainstream population. The students of Borale pada embark on a dangerous journey daily by boat towards Savardev’s school.

There are many schemes for tribal development at the center and state. However, such stories shed light on the reality of the struggles tribal students face for education.

Team of Seva Sahayog Foundation upon learning about the dangerous daily journey undertaken by the students of Borale pada to reach their school recognized the need to assist. The story came out on 9th February, we distributed four jackets on 12th Feb. The quick response and contribution of Seva Sahayog were much appreciated and recognized by the community. Additionally, the Chief Minister of Maharashtra was also made aware of the situation and he promptly took action to help the children. The contribution of both- Seva Sahayog and the Chief Minister highlights the importance of recognizing and addressing the challenges faced by tribal students in their pursuit of education.
