Why the School Kit Drive is More Than Stationery
In the heart of every child in the underserved communities of Maharashtra lies a spark of ambition. But for many, that spark is dimmed by a harsh reality: the lack of a simple notebook or a sturdy bag to carry their dreams to school.
At Seva Sahayog Foundation, we believe that poverty should never be the silent thief of a child’s education.
Our School Kit Drive is not just a logistics exercise — it is our flagship mission to give a “pair of wings” to children who need hope to lift their families out of hardship. Last year alone, this collective effort reached 92,000 students, and as we prepare for the academic year starting June 2026, we invite you to be part of this transformative journey.
The Science of Giving: Meticulous and Meaningful
We don’t just give — we listen. The composition of our kits is finalised after rigorous discussions with school representatives to ensure every item, from geometry boxes to drawing books, is grade appropriate and genuinely needed.
- Economies of scale: By centralising procurement, we ensure every rupee is stretched. For 2026, the average cost of a comprehensive kit is just ₹650.
- Proven impact: Our 2025 assessment showed that before receiving kits, only 30% of students had all the materials they needed. After distribution, 93.2% of students said the kit made them less likely to skip school.
- Financial relief: For a family dependent on daily wages, a kit represents a saving of ₹800–₹1,200 — money that can instead go toward other essential educational needs or household health.
The Soul of the Drive: Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam
It would be easy to pay a vendor to pack and ship these kits. But at Seva Sahayog, we choose the harder, more meaningful path. We want the “haves” of society to hand-pack these kits for the “have-nots.”
This act is a living embodiment of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam — the world is one family. When a volunteer — perhaps a corporate professional or a retired teacher — packs a bag, they send a message to a child they may never meet: “We believe in you. Society wants to see you flourish.”
